INTRODUCTION
MY ROLE Brand Designer | Logo Design & Brand Identity System Star Candies is a UK-based confectionery brand undergoing a complete rebrand and name change. As they repositioned themselves in the competitive candy market, they needed a fresh visual identity that could capture attention on crowded retail shelves while feeling playful, memorable, and unmistakably theirs. THE CHALLENGE I needed to create a logo that would work across multiple touchpoints, from packaging to digital presence, while capturing the joy and sweetness that makes candy special. The brand needed to feel approachable to children yet sophisticated enough for adults making purchasing decisions. Most importantly, it needed to stand out in an industry where vibrant colors, playful typography, and bold graphics are the norm.
DESIGNING METHOD
COLLABORATIVE EXPLORATION The project began with collaborative brainstorming sessions with the team. We explored what makes candy brands memorable, studied competitors in the UK market, and discussed what emotional response Star Candies wanted to evoke. The goal was clear: create something eye-catching that captures the essence of joy, indulgence, and fun. CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT I explored multiple conceptual directions, playing with ideas around stars, sweetness, celebration, and delight. The star motif became my natural focal point, offering endless possibilities for visual play. It represented celebration, quality (as in "five-star"), and could be adapted across various design applications. ITERATIVE DESIGN PROCESS My logo design process involved sketching, refining, and iterating on different approaches. I experimented with typography styles that balanced playfulness with legibility, tested various star configurations, and explored color palettes that felt fresh rather than predictable. Each iteration was evaluated against key criteria: Does it stand out? Is it memorable? Does it feel sweet without being childish? Can it scale across different applications?
FINAL LOGO DESIGN The final logo design I created balances whimsy with professionalism. The typography is friendly and approachable, while the star element adds a distinctive visual signature that makes the brand instantly recognizable. My color choices were strategic, creating visual pop while maintaining versatility across different packaging materials and backgrounds. FLEXIBLE BRAND SYSTEM Beyond the primary logo, I developed a flexible brand system that could adapt to different product lines, packaging sizes, and marketing materials. This included logo variations, color usage guidelines, and typography applications, ensuring the brand identity remained cohesive regardless of where it appeared.

FINAL PERFORMANCE
MARKET DIFFERENTIATION The rebrand I created successfully gave Star Candies a fresh, contemporary identity that differentiated them in the UK confectionery market. The logo is memorable and versatile, working equally well on small candy wrappers and large retail displays. COLLABORATIVE FOUNDATION The collaborative approach proved invaluable for my professional development. Working through brainstorming sessions and iterations with the team reinforced the importance of refinement and how multiple perspectives strengthen design outcomes. Taking a concept from initial sketches to a polished, production-ready brand identity provided essential experience in delivering client-ready work. BRAND ESSENCE CAPTURED Most importantly, the logo I designed captured the essence of what makes Star Candies special. It feels joyful, inviting, and sweet without relying on clichés. The star element gives the brand a distinctive visual hook that aids recognition and recall, critical in a category where shelf presence determines success. FOUNDATION FOR BRAND WORK This project established my foundation in brand identity work and demonstrated that great branding isn't just about making something beautiful but about creating a visual identity that tells a story and connects with people emotionally. The skills I developed here, from collaborative ideation to systematic brand thinking, have informed every branding project since.
