INTRODUCTION

MY ROLE Lead Designer & Team Lead | Complete Website Design, Design System, Team Management Thrive Now was an ambitious food delivery platform aimed at empowering restaurant owners with a direct channel to customers, bypassing traditional aggregator platforms and their hefty commission fees. The startup needed a digital presence that could compete with industry giants while offering something fundamentally different: a partnership model that put restaurants first. THE CHALLENGE I faced the challenge of creating a website that could resonate with two distinct audiences: restaurant owners seeking better margins and control, and hungry customers expecting the seamless experience they'd grown accustomed to with established platforms. The design needed to feel both professional enough to earn restaurateurs' trust and youthful enough to appeal to digital-native food lovers. Beyond aesthetics, the information architecture had to clearly communicate Thrive's unique value proposition in an oversaturated market where differentiation is everything.

DESIGNING METHOD

MARKET RESEARCH & COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS I began the project with comprehensive market research into the food delivery landscape. I studied competitors like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, analyzing their user flows, pain points, and areas of opportunity. I also conducted research into restaurant owner needs, discovering critical insights about commission structures, order management, and the desire for direct customer relationships. INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE Armed with these insights, I developed a strategic information architecture that prioritized clarity and conversion. My IA was structured to immediately communicate value propositions, guide users through distinct journeys (restaurant signup vs. customer ordering), and reduce friction at every decision point. Each section was intentionally positioned to answer questions before they arose and build confidence progressively. DESIGN PROCESS My design process followed a methodical approach: starting with wireframes to establish spatial relationships and user flows, progressing to lo-fi designs to test interaction patterns, and culminating in high-fidelity mockups that brought the brand to life. This iterative process allowed for early validation and refinement without investing heavily in premature visual polish.

COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN SYSTEM Creating a comprehensive design system was crucial for maintaining consistency and scalability. I developed a modular component library covering typography, color schemes, button states, form elements, cards, and navigation patterns. My system balanced youthful energy with professional credibility, using vibrant accent colors and playful illustrations while maintaining clean layouts and trustworthy typography. Every component was designed with reusability in mind, enabling the development team to build efficiently while maintaining visual coherence. VISUAL DESIGN STRATEGY The visual language I crafted struck a deliberate balance. Warm, appetizing photography showcased food in its best light. Approachable illustrations humanized the platform and explained complex concepts simply. Clear hierarchy and generous whitespace ensured information density never overwhelmed users. Micro-interactions added delight without distracting from core tasks. TEAM LEADERSHIP Throughout the project, I led a team of two junior designers, mentoring them through the design process, facilitating feedback sessions, and ensuring quality standards across all deliverables.

FINAL PERFORMANCE

SUCCESSFUL MARKET POSITIONING The platform I designed successfully positioned Thrive as a fresh alternative in the food delivery space. My youthful yet professional aesthetic differentiated the brand from competitors while building credibility with both restaurant partners and customers. CLEAR VALUE COMMUNICATION The clear information architecture I created solved the core communication challenge, making Thrive's value proposition immediately understandable. Restaurant owners could quickly grasp how the platform would benefit their bottom line, while customers experienced an intuitive ordering flow that matched or exceeded their expectations from established platforms. SCALABLE DESIGN SYSTEM The comprehensive design system I developed proved invaluable beyond initial launch. It enabled rapid iteration, maintained brand consistency as features evolved, and provided clear guidelines for developers, reducing back-and-forth and accelerating time-to-market. My modular approach meant new features could be designed and implemented without reinventing the wheel. EMOTIONAL RESONANCE Most importantly, the design created emotional resonance. The warm, inviting aesthetic made food feel exciting and accessible. The clear communication of Thrive's mission (putting restaurants first) created an emotional connection with restaurant owners tired of predatory commission models. DEMONSTRATED CAPABILITIES While Thrive is no longer operational, this project demonstrated my ability to differentiate a startup in a crowded market through strategic design thinking, lead a design team to deliver cohesive outcomes, and build scalable systems that support product evolution.
